What a great storm! 18 inches in the last 3 days is just what we needed. Everyone is asking the same question…When is the Upper Mountain going to open? The short answer is that we are working towards opening on or around Friday December 22nd.
We are very motivated to get open as soon as possible and to give our Gold Pass holders some great Upper Mountain skiing before the holiday black out. As much as it would be great to open sooner, it takes an immense amount of work and preparation by our grooming, snowmaking, lift, and ski patrol crews.
Over the next week, our amazing staff will make snow on Gayway and the bottom of the Upper Mountain lifts. Sunrise will be groomed using the winch cat. Over 300 snow fences will be removed by hand. The load and unloading ramps for the lifts will be shoveled and packed. Our patrol will conduct avalanche mitigation and related trail closures. All of these things and so many more go into opening up that part of the mountain, but it will be worth the wait.
We will update specific trails to be opened as we get closer. In the meantime, the lower mountain is close to 100% open and skiing great. See you on the mountain soon.
